Wine for Beginners. Are you new to wine? Or maybe you’ve tried your first wine long ago, and just stuck to buying and drinking the same thing since then. Have you ever wondered what else was out there?

Wine for Beginners

Wine for Beginners. Don’t let you lack of knowledge or experience prevent you from taking the next step on the road to knowing and loving wine. You don’t have to become a wine “expert” after all.

But remember that every wine expert out there started from the same place you’re in right now.

So if you are ready, here are three simple steps to get you started with your wine journey:

Wine for Beginners Step 1 – Avoid the pitfalls of perception

Well, you’re already saying to yourself, everyone knows that wine is “sophisticated,” or a “luxury,” or something that fancy people drink. The common perception is that you need to know what you are doing, and how to do it correctly if you are going to be a wine drinker.

Nonsense!

Forget any rules about wine you may have heard in the past. The only rule you need to know when you are starting out is that there are no rules.

Wine for Beginners Step 2 – Open your mind and pay attention

The best thing you can do to help yourself on your wine journey is to regularly try new stuff. Do away with preconceptions, and just open up bottles and taste what’s in there. Some things you’ll like. Others you won’t. But if you never try, you’ll never know.

The second part of this process is to actually pay attention to the things you like, the things that you don’t. Try to pinpoint the reason(s) for your reaction, and come up with a simple way to describe the things that matter to you. That means the next time you are at a wine shop or a restaurant, you have a starting point for finding another new wine to try.

Wine for Beginners Step 3 – Don’t take this stuff too seriously

Yes, wine is rich in history, some wines are really expensive, and most of the world’s wines come from far off lands and have labels in languages other than English. But that doesn’t mean you need to be intimidated by it… or that you should take it too seriously.

Wine is just a beverage made from grapes that sat around in some yeast for a while and turned into something a little more interesting than where it started. It’s starts in a field, tended by farmers… and ends up in your glass, where you get to enjoy it.

Now that you know…

Look, wine doesn’t have to be stuffy or complicated. Don’t go so much by what the experts say.  Enjoy your wine, relax and have fun with it.
