Reasons Why Coffee Drinkers Make Better Lovers
People who drink a cup of coffee a day keep percolating sexually right into old age, a group of Michigan researchers has found.
In a study of nearly 800 people 60 and over who live in Washtenaw County, Mich., which includes Ann Arbor, researchers were surprised to find that men and women who are regular coffee drinkers were much more likely to be sexually active than people who are not.
“It came as a complete surprise to us,” said Dr. Ananias Diokno, a urologist from William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. “We don`t know what it means.”
It could be that coffee stimulates people sexually, that uninhibited people who are sexually active are more likely to drink coffee or something else altogether, Diokno said.
The federally financed study actually was looking at urinary incontinence in an older, generally healthy population, Diokno said. Volunteers answered a broad range of questions that included sexual activity, smoking, consumption of alcohol and coffee drinking.
“We didn`t find any other association with sex,” Diokno said. “Not with alcohol or smoking, just with coffee.”
Coffee is a stimulant of the central nervous system and a smooth-muscle relaxant known to enhance response to sensory stimulation, Diokno said.
“Coffee increases reflex activity,” he said. “This could make people more awake, alert, stimulated and sensitive. We really don`t know.” Source: Sun-Sentinel.com
